Evaluation

In this assignment i was required to come up with my own shop where i had to create a brand logo design and packaging based around my logo and type of shop i was creating. I came up with deciding to design a trainer shop because i have a big interest in trainers and in the society we live in trainers are a big asset and nearly everyone wears trainers people of all ages.


The brand name i decided to use was 'Super Kicks', i decided to use this name because it was catchy and fun. My initial logo ideas consisted of the letters 'SK' with different types of effects around it, i also came up with a shoe with the words Super Kicks underneath and a range of other ideas. I experimented with creating logo ideas out of chalk, paint and other materials. i came up with my final logo idea by splashing paint around the letters 'SK' and i liked it and decided to use it for my logo after developing it and editing it on photoshop. After i had come up with my logo i created a box design which i started up with basic designs such as putting my logo on the front with multi coloured sides etc. I developed my box design ideas and decided to put a range of images together and create an urban effect and make them all come together. The final thing i created was a tag that goes on top of laces packaging. The reason i did this instead of a swing tag was because trainers don't often have swing tags it is mainly clothes.


The person that inspired me was Russel Simmons who owns the fashion company 'Phatfarm' who design trainers. His companies work inspired as it had an urban and exclusive look to the products and made me want to base my work around the same lines. The Person that inspired to do the design that i had done was Andy Potts who is a graphic designer. Andy Potts work consists of bringing lots of images together of movement, buildings etc and combining them together to create a specific look on a design with the same colours.


The things that have worked well for me are my logo, my Box design and my swing tag. i was very happy with the designs i created on each one and thought that they met the expectations i was hoping for. The images i used worked with well because they all related to the theme and type of products my shop sold. The Photoshop effects that i had used worked very well as they gave the designs the look that i wanted and the colours went together nicely.


I think there were a number of things that i could have improved on in my final outcomes. Firstly my Box design i felt that i could have added more onto it and made it look more busy and eye catching. I also felt that I could have made my net more complex and less simple.


Overall I thought the project went well with my final outcomes, i could have done better with the sub-tasks leading up the final outcomes and there is certainly room for improvement. Overall I enjoyed this project  a lot.

Photographs used for design

These are photographs i captured of two buildings in canary wharf, my trainer and one of my hats which i chose to use on the design of my box and the design of my lace packaging. i editted the images aftwerward so that they blended onto my design and looked texturised and had a more urban look about them.

Final Top of Box Design

This is my final top of the Box design that i created on photoshop. I got my logo and changed the threshold and hue saturation to make it blend in with the orange of the background and then i centred it so its in the middle of the box. The images of the hat and the trainer i photographed myself and the buildings i took photographs of in canary wharf and did the same thing i did with the logo and made them over lap so it looks like a collage. My aim was to make my box look urban and street like.

Final Lace Packaging

This is my final lace cover packaging design i created on photoshop. I took photographs of the trainer, hat and building and edited them on photoshop with the threshold tool and changed around the hue saturation to make them all the same colour and give them a kind of urban rugged look. On the front i took a photograph of a building in canary wharf and adjusted the threshold and hue saturation to create an urban theme.

Swing Tags

This is a swing tag used on jeans. It looks quite classy and royal like it has been used for designer jeans or the more expensive jeans. the colours gold and black are quite bold so they both stand out a lot. The string is also black which matches the gold and black theme. The text appears like it has been engraved onto the swing tag as it looks like it on a lower level to the surface.

These are swing tags used on Nike products. These ones look more professional and solid as they have the metal roping instead of the string and also they are covered by a clear casing. The variety of colours make it look interesting and the font is big and bold so it stands out.

This is a Tommy Hilfiger swing tag that is used on clothing. it has a rugged look to it and is quite basic. it looks like it has a kind of western kind of theme with the rope string also looking quite worn out and rugged.

This a versace swing tag used on clothing. it has a slick dark look to it and also looks texturised like the words and image are sticking out which adds a good effect. this swing tag looks very professional.

This is a swing tag that has been used for ralph lauren clothing. Ralph lauren is a company that specialises their clothes around polo and horses as you can see from their logo. this swing tag is made out to look worn out and dirty which is relevant to horses as being used from the western days.

Box Nets

These are some shape nets that i put together to give me an idea of how they fit together properly and to think about adding the way they fasten to edges and flaps to my own box design.

This is the work of Andy Potts who has used texturising and thresholds to create layers of images come together to create these amazing pieces.

Box design ideas

This is another box design i created but a more enhanced idea. i added the initials of my brand to the sides of the box where string or a shoe lace will be attached so the box can also be held as a bag. This design will be improved as this was my early idea.

This is what my box looks like when it is fastened together. This is a basic box design but i will gradually improve the design to make it more interesting.

This is a box design i created with bubble text showing my brand name and i also added pieces of blue and purple shoe lace to add onto the theme of trainers. This is an example of the lid of the box.
